L@tE East of England : Element 1, a major collaborative work by Porter and Frost

Presentation Introducing
L@tE, East of England at Wicken Fen National Trust Nature Reserve, Cambridgeshire, UK, supported by Commissions East Awards for Artists

Artists Porter and Frost use very different materials and methods of expression but have developed a close collaboration in presenting work for L@tE. Their concern is for communities to be aware of their environment and the effects of existence at the edge of land and water provide a basis for their collaboration. They encourage participation and engagement with materials and placing of their work, whether transient or more permanent in nature.

The shared experience of living and working on land that is fragile and unstable. The force of water from inland and sea affects the edge and is perceived differently depending on the place you choose to view it.

Open discussion with local residents and site managers and local agencies took place about the process of developing the project, how effectively it had communicated with visitors and local residents as well as work personnel and other researchers who use Wicken as a resource.
